Transferring your site to our servers

If you have an existing website make sure you have a copy of the site before you begin the transfer process. All of our hosting packages include free FTP access. Please call our office at 800.880.1580 to set up your FTP account and upload your site to our servers.

In order for your website to be seen over the Internet, the visitor’s computer needs to know where to find your site. There is a process that goes on behind the scenes which involves DNS (Domain Name Server). These servers resolve the name of your site and point it to the server where your website is hosted.

As the owner of your domain name only you have the authority to change nameserver information for obvious security purposes. With that said; your site will not be visible from our servers until you change the "nameserver" information at your registrar so that web surfers may find your site's new location. Until then any attempts to bring up your site will only be bringing it up from the server of your old host.

Your registrar is usually the organization where you purchased your domain name (e.g. Network Solutions or Godaddy.com). If you purchased the domain name through your previous web host you may need to get their help in transferring.

If you are not sure who your domain name registrar is you may do a “whois” look up on your domain name at http://www.betterwhois.com to find out who your registrar is. The process of changing nameserver information will be slightly different for each registrar. Here are links to instructions for some major registrars; most registrars will have a "Manage my Account" link that you can enter. With your user name/account number you should be able to manage all of the information in your account.

The nameserver information at your registrar will look similar to this:

ns1.oldhost.com
ns2.oldhost.com

You will need to replace this information with the Power Web Connect’s Domain Name Servers.

The name server information you will need is:

Primary Name Server: IP Number:
DNS1.POWERWEB.NET
64.118.32.25
Secondary Name Server:
NS2.AMERITECH.NET
206.141.193.168
Secondary Name Server:
DNS2.POWERWEB.NET
64.118.32.22

Note: Some registrars will not require our IP numbers

That's it. Once your registrar has our name server information and your domain name information propagates throughout the Internet, you will be able to get to your web site by name from our server. This process will generally take 24 - 72 hours once your changes are completed.
